It was 47 years ago today that UK TV audiences were given their first glimpse of an elderly but spry gentleman known only as The Doctor (William Hartnell) and his highly intelligent, "unearthly" granddaughter Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford). Susan's knowledge about a variety of topics, and her curious lack of knowledge about others, piqued the interest of two of her teachers, Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill) and Ian Chesterton (William Russell), and they paid a visit to Susan's home. Much to their surprise, it turned out to be an old junkyard, and their initial encounter with The Doctor led them into his spaceship, the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space). Thus began an adventure of a lifetime. Little did the cast and crew of the BBC TV series Doctor Who know that this timeless (!) odyssey would still be around today. Happy Anniversary, Doctor!
