BBC America announced today the casting of John Hannah, Alan Tudyk, Amanda Walsh and Aleks Paunovic as guest stars in season two of the highly anticipated scripted original series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Starring Elijah Wood and Samuel Barnett, the series is penned by Max Landis (American Ultra, Chronicle) and executive produced by Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe). Adapted from the wildly popular novels by Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), season two will return with ten episodes and premiere later this year. The series is produced by AMC Studios. It will stream globally on Netflix in countries outside the US.
John Hannah (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marley's Ghosts, Atlantis, A Midsummer Night's Dream) will play The Mage, powerful wizard who takes great pleasure in doing evil and is seeking to conquer a world not his own.
Alan Tudyk (Rogue One, Firefly, Serenity, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Maze Runner, Death at a Funeral, Dodgeball) will play Mr. Priest, a ruthless, dangerous, and violent bounty hunter working for Blackwing.
Aleks Paunovic (War for the Planet of the Apes, Van Helsing, Continuum, Supernatural) will play Wygar Oak, a dominating enforcer for the Dengdamor royal family.
Amanda Walsh (Curb of Enthusiasm, Ghost of Girlfriends Past, Lost Girl, Sons and Daughters, Disturbia) will play Suzie Boreton, an unassuming, insecure, depressed soccer mom who is selected for an unexpected role by the Mage, and gradually reveals her true, terrifying self to our heroes.
Recent casting announced also included Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Deadbeat) who will play Sherlock Hobbs, an under-stimulated, but overly enthusiastic small town sheriff who is eager to help Dirk and crew solve a new mystery. This season reunites Labine and Tudyk who co-starred in the cult film phenomenon Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
The series is set in the unexpected world of the hyper, absurd, eponymous detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett). Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, is a serialized comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric “holistic” detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd (Elijah Wood), as they wend their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery a season, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a co-production of AMC Studios, IDEATE MEDIA and IDW Entertainment, with Circle of Confusion producing for BBC AMERICA. Max Landis writes and executive produces the series with Robert Cooper serving as executive producer and showrunner. Arvind Ethan David and Zainir Aminullah for IDEATE MEDIA executive produce along with Ted Adams and David Ozer for IDW and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs for Circle of Confusion.
