Last night, May 28, Amazon Prime Video hosted the World Premiere of the upcoming Amazon Original series, Good Omens, in Leicester Square in London. The six-episode limited series will debut globally on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, May 31. The six-episode limited series coming to Amazon Prime Video on May 31 is based on the beloved satirical novel “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch” by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Good Omens is a dark, comedic story set in modern-day Britain that centers on a fussy angel, Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and the loose-living demon, Crowley (David Tennant) as they join forces to prevent the coming of the Apocalypse.
Cast walking the grass carpet included Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Jon Hamm, Adria Arjona, Miranda Richardson, Josie Lawrence, Brian Cox, alongside best-selling author and showrunner Neil Gaiman, series director and executive producer Douglas Mackinnon, and executive producer Rob Wilkins. Kicking off the world premiere festivities, the nuns of the Chattering Order of St. Beryl crashed the carpet with a special performance for the hundreds of fans watching. Following the carpet, the cast and fans packed the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square Cinema to watch the first two episodes of the highly anticipated series.
Earlier in the day, the cast and creators participated in a Q&A about the series – key quotes and takeaways below:
Neil Gaiman (on Terry Pratchett’s ‘Last Request’) “Terry, who never asked anything of me in all our years of friendship wrote to me and said ‘you have to do this, you’re the only person out there who has the passion and understanding for Good Omens that I have – you have to make it into television because I want to see it before the lights go out’ I thought I had six or seven years of Terry left, but then he died, which suddenly turned [Good Omens] into his last request.”
Michael Sheen (on his character Aziraphale’s relationship with Crowley [Tennant]) “One of the interesting things about the coupling [Aziraphale and Crowley] is how they rub off on each other, they’ve been on for Earth so long and them to The Beatles, nobody else knows what they’ve been through, but each other – just like The Beatles!”
Jon Hamm (on becoming Archangel Gabriel) “It seemed to me that there was an opportunity for [Archangel Gabriel] to portray this guy as the boss that everyone has, but everyone hates – who is constantly smiling and telling you ‘great job,’ while also subconsciously saying ‘you’re terrible’.”
Prior to the world premiere in London, Amazon Prime Video hosted an exclusive red carpet and screening event in New York City with Michael Sheen, David Tennant, Jon Hamm, Adria Arjona, and Nick Offerman along with series executive producers Neil Gaiman, Douglas Mackinnon, and Rob Wilkins in attendance.
