On Wednesday, January 22nd, Paramount+ hosted the highly anticipated premiere of Star Trek: Section 31. Taking place at Jazz at the Lincoln Center, director and executive producer Olatunde Osunsanmi and the main cast including Academy-Award winner Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Rob Kazinsky, and Kacey Rohl walked the red carpet, leaving Star Trek enthusiasts and fans buzzing with excitement. They were joined by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Aaron Baiers, executive producer and writer Craig Sweeny and additional Star Trek: Section 31 stars Sven Ruygrok, Humberly Gonzalez, James Hiroyuki Liao, Joe Pingue, Miku Martineau, Augusto Bitter, Emily Mei. Special guests included Paul Giamatti, Carol Kane, Sonequa Martin-Green, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp.
Before the screening, the audience was treated to a heartfelt introduction from Olatunde Osunsanmi and Alex Kurtzman, who shared a few words about the making of the film and the importance of expanding the Star Trek universe. Michelle Yeoh also took to the stage to acknowledge the cast and crew and give a big thank you to the loyal fans. The star-studded event marks yet another achievement in the long-standing Star Trek franchise.
Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Friday, January 24th, 2025. The movie will be available in the United States and other countries where Paramount+ is available. In the movie, Yeoh reprises her fan-favorite role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou – a character she played in Star Trek: Discovery – who joins a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past. Star Trek: Section 31 also stars Omari Hardwick (Power), Emmy winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and Joe Pingue (The Expanse). Miku Martineau (Kate) portrays a young Philippa Georgiou.
